The Story of Our Founder and CEO

From mapping the earth’s rock formations to mapping leadership potential, Wilfred Ovedhe’s unconventional journey proves that curiosity, resilience, and challenges can lead to purpose—and a brighter destiny.

At Coaching.EQ Ltd., we draw inspiration from the transformative path of our founder, Wilfred Ovedhe—a globally recognized, ICF- and EMCC-accredited executive coach, TEC Canada Chair, and leadership facilitator. His bold transition from geologist to industry innovator to EQ-driven leadership expert fuels our commitment to delivering leadership programs that spark measurable impact across industries and markets. 

From Geology Graduate to Global Engineer

Wilfred’s career began in the dynamic world of oil and gas as a geology graduate driven to solve real-world challenges. After completing Shell’s prestigious Intensive Training Program, he refined his skills even further with a Master’s in Oil and Gas Engineering from Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen. 

His expertise took him to extreme environments—braving relentless storms in the North Sea, managing land rig operations across England, and breaking new ground as part of the pioneering deep-water exploration team in the Falkland Islands. 

Mastering Business Acumen

Despite his technical achievements, Wilfred recognized that mastery of the earth wasn’t enough: successful leadership also required a deep understanding of business. Four years after completing his technical degree, he earned a Master’s in Management with distinction. This milestone equipped him with the strategic insight to connect technical expertise with the organizational forces that propel industries forward. 

Innovation Under Executive Pressure

Wilfred’s career took him to Canada and the USA, where he worked as a senior research specialist, driving next-generation drilling innovations. His work culminated in co-authoring a U.S. patent for groundbreaking drilling technologies, and his firsthand experience proved a critical leadership lesson: executive decisions can either accelerate progress—or bring it to a halt. 

A Defining Crossroads

In 2014, the global oil and gas slowdown disrupted even the strongest careers. When layoffs impacted Wilfred, despite his history of exceptional contributions, he was forced to grapple with a harsh truth: no amount of expertise could guarantee freedom from market volatility. 

At this crossroads, Wilfred sought clarity and direction through an executive coach. This decision profoundly changed the course of his life and ignited a passion for helping others unlock their potential, just as coaching had done for him. 

From Coachee to Coach

Inspired by the life-changing power of coaching, Wilfred completely reinvented his career. He pursued an Advanced Diploma in Personal Leadership and Executive Coaching from Kingstown College, Ireland, and earned his ACC credentials from the International Coaching Federation.

Armed with hands-on industry grit, two advanced degrees, patented innovations, and professional coaching accreditation, Wilfred pivoted from being a high-performing engineer into a transformational leadership and executive coach.

Wilfred began as a geology graduate eager to solve realworld problems in oil and gas. But technical expertise was only part of the equation. Four years later, he returned to academia to complete a Master’s in Management with distinction, broadening his perspective from the earth beneath our feet to the markets and organizations that drive industries. His pursuit of innovation then carried him to Canada and the USA, where he coauthored a U.S. patent for nextgeneration drilling technologies and experienced firsthand how executive decisions can accelerate or stall progress.

That single experience sparked a transformation that would redefine his career and ignite a new mission: to help leaders grow personally and professionally, and to navigate leadership challenges with clarity and confidence.

Reflecting on his journey, Wilfred shares:

“I got into coaching because while working with an executive coach for the first time in my life, I realized that what had eventually become known as ‘Professional Coaching’ was something I had been doing with vigor and curiosity for years. If this is a profession, surely this is what I am all about: working with people to help them grow and accomplish their goals and vision in life.”

This conviction led him to found Coaching.EQ Limited. As he explains:

“My research mind made it clear that every coaching relationship, consciously or subconsciously, has a theme or program behind it. While this may evolve over time, it is the coach’s ability to adapt to the changing needs of the client that keeps the process alive. I believed it would be most beneficial for clients if their coaching needs could be determined upfront using a proven, measurable tool like the EQi 2.0, before designing a customized coaching and training program to facilitate their growth.”

Rupa’s marketing leadership spans Corbis, Getty Images, EyeWire, and Adobe, where he specialized in data analysis, management, and marketing strategy.

Having lived, worked, and studied in Canada, the UK, and Australia, Simon brings a global perspective to his work. For the past three decades, he has been based in Vancouver, where he combines international insight with deep community involvement. He currently serves as Chair of a technology nonprofit, applying his governance and strategic planning expertise to support innovation and social impact. 

Simon holds a Science degree from the UK and an MBA from Simon Fraser University. Married for 34 years and the father of three adult children, he values family, community, and lifelong learning. Outside of work, he enjoys traveling, skiing, golf, and reading history.
